This limited edition garment is woven in Okayama, Japan, by the world-renowned Kuroki mill. Oeko-Tex-certified, Kuroki sources fine organic cotton, then uses natural (i.e., no chemicals) indigo dyes to create the rich indigo colour. The yarn is woven into selvedge cloth using Japanese-made machines from the 1950s. Following weaving, the cloth is inspected twice for any imperfections, then air-washed exclusively for M.J. Bale in Kojima to achieve the texture, durability, and colour fastness we require for a connoisseur-style denim collection. The cloth is then constructed into its jacket form in nearby Kojima, Okayama, within a small, family-run workshop (see Performance).

This garment is made in Kojima, Okayama, according to traditional denim workwear methods of the 1950s. 25 different panels of Kuroki’s indigo-dyed fabric are sewn together over 42 different stages. This garment is twin needle stitched, using 10 stitches per 3cm, making it strong and durable. It is also chain-stitched to make it more elastic. This is an heirloom piece, made by the greats of Japanese denim, and one to be passed down to future generations if cared for properly.
